So, as expected, President Bush vetoed the bill that the Democratic-led Congress passed that would provide more funding for the war as well as a timeline that would require the withdrawl of troops from Iraq by October 1st of this year.
from khaleejtimes.com
“He said Democrats had made a political statement by passing anti-war legislation. ‘They’ve sent their message, and now it’s time to put politics behind us and support our troops with the funds,’ the president said.
He said the need to act was urgent because without a war-funding bill, the armed forces will have to consider cutting back on buying or repairing equipment.
‘Our troops and their families deserve better, and their elected leaders can do better,’ Bush said.”
What a nutcase! The troops and their families deserve better by COMING HOME AND STOPPING THIS IDIOTIC WAR!

…that would require the Pentagon to begin removing US troops from Iraq by 10/1/07! Great news, huh? Not quite.
President Bush has said that he will immediately veto the bill when it goes to the White House if it contains any kind of timetable for removing the troops. And it was only approved by a 51 to 46 vote, which is not a 2/3 majority needed to overthrow a presidential veto. Here’s to hoping President Bush changes his mind. (Yeah, I know. Not gonna happen.)
